Q: What guitar amp would be good for playing metallica songs at home?
I really like learning & playing metallica songs on guitar, but it kinda erritates me when I don't get the right sound out of my amp. What amp would be good for playing metallica songs at home, and getting a good sound?

A: XYZ is correct about you not needing a big amp at home. I play predominately heavy metal and my choice of at home amp is a Peavey ValveKing Royal 8. I have replaced the stock speaker with a Celestion Super 8 and changed the tubes to my preference but otherwise the amp was left stock. This may only be a 5 watt amp but it is incredibly loud and the addition of a distortion pedal like the Boss MZ-2 that I use and you pretty much nail the Metallica sound. Make sure you drive it with a distortion pedal, not a overdrive or fuzz pedal because they won't give you the sound you want. When you get some more cash grab a delay pedal to fill the sound out a bit and then buy a wah so you can butcher solos like Kirk Hammet.

Q: Do you think that Bob Rock is to blame for screwing up metallica?
Bob Rock is from my home city and has the same birthday as me and Im pretty ashamed of that. I think he is to blame for new Metallica's suckishness what do you think?

A: yes, rock made them do softer stuff because that's what was in at the time, in other words, he had a contract with them so that he couldn't be fired and made metallica sell out, then james went through drug withdrawal which explains the angry suckness of st anger. then my favorite producer (Rick Rubin) let them do what they wanted and the result was amazing.

Q: How many instrumental songs does metallica have?
how many instrumental songs does metallica have, what are they called, what albums are they on and does ectasy of gold count as one.

A: Metallica have four instrumental songs, I don't know if you want to count the entire S&M Project though. (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth - Kill em All The Call Of Ktulu - Ride the Lightning Orion - Master of Puppets Suicide & Redemption - Death Magnetic Ecstasy of Gold doesn't really count because they did not write it, and they don't have it on any of their albums, it is composed by Ennio Morricone. Though, you'd think it was their song, since they've opened every concert with that song since the 80s.

Q: How do I get a METALLICA sound?
I just bought a Behringer UM300 distortion pedal, and I was wondering if anyone wud help me find the correct settings for a Metallica sound. The 6 different distortions are: level, distortion, high, low, middle, and middle frequency.

A: Well, here's the problem... even given the different sounds over the years, you simply don't get "The Metallica Sound" from a pedalboard. Well, I guess it depends on "who" you're playing, too. Back in the early 90s, James Hetfield described his sound this way: "Distortion always starts with the amp. Pedals just site on top of the sound. They don't feel like a full part of it, just some fuzz on top. You can fiddle with parametric EQs and all that shit for days, but it still won't have the smooth distortion of an amp. The last time I used a distortion [overdrive] pedal was on Ride the Lightning, and it was hell. It was an Ibanez Tube Screamer like Kirk uses. It really helps his solos cut through, but it puts a shitty coating on smooth rhythm tones, and it was hard to make it not sound like a pedal. You can recognize Marshall distortion in an instant; that's why I shied away from that and went with MESA/Boogies. I basically use the Boogie's distortion with a non-programmable studio-quality Aphex parametric EQ to fine-tune certain frequencies, dipping out some of the midrange. All my speakers are Celestion Vintage 30s." You can get some of that with an amp simulator, like a Pod, but only a simulation of the real thing (which, honestly, is what most of us who can't afford all possible sets of gear are going to have to live with). Of course, it's also guitar and pickups. Kirk says: "My philosophy has always been a clean amp with a stomp box. I hate the sound of piling distortion on top of distortion. I was using a MESA/Boogie preamp, but I've gone back to the ADA MP-1 with an ADA programmable EQ through a MESA/Boogie Strategy 400 power amp. For leads, I use a low gain setting on the ADA MP-1, but switch on an Ibanez Tube Screamer. Using the Tube Screamer in conjunction with a tube amp really brings out the tube qualities of the amp. And there's just something about that simple, raw, gritty fuzz box sound. One of the best lead sounds I ever got was when I played an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff through a Montgomery Ward amp with 3" speaker, for a Jeff Beck tone." Which doesn't help you with your pedal. I don't know that pedal specifically, but (like most Behringer gear), this is a ripoff/clone of someone else's stuff... in this case, it's meant to be similar to a Boss Metal Zone pedal. You can probably Google up a bunch of folks suggesting different settings for specific stuff on the Metal Zone, and try these settings out on your pedal.

Q: how much money does a band like metallica make from one cd that is sold?
how much money does metallica make? what do they get from one cd? because one cd costs like $15 , so how much of that money does the band acually see?

A: it varies - the songwriters of each song get about 9 cents per song total, then the band may get a percentage of the wholesale price of the cd - Michael Jackson at one time got 40% of the wholesale price back when albums retailed for like $8 - so even then, it was a couple of dollars per album/cd/tape - Anymore - bands make a ton more money by touring rather than cd sales , which have really dropped in recent years overall
