Q: Was early Metallica progressive music?
I've heard people claim that 80s Metallica, ala And Justice for All or Master of Puppets, was progressive music...as in prog rock bands like Yes or King Crimson or Jethro Tull.
Early Metallica definitely sounds more complex or epic than your typical rock or metal song, but does it qualify as progressive? Prog rock fans?
A: I'm a big prog fan, and I most definitely think that era of Metallica was progressive. That's part of why "Puppets" and "Justice" are my two favorite Metallica albums. Extended compositions with lots of unexpected twists and turns ... very creative stuff.
Q: how come metallica(and metal music fans in general)dont respect jason newsted ex metallica bass player?
i always hear ppl say he sucks and is a shiti bass player but i think he was awesome,he had a great back vocal and energy and could entertain ppl much better thn cliff.and was a hella great headbanger too!why ppl hate him?
A: I love Metallica, Jason is a great bass player. Just listen to the intro on My Friend Of Misery, brilliant.
I hope Rob Trujillo is there to stay though, Metallica are back on top again.
Q: Are metallica fans to picky when it comes to their music?
It seems some people are now knit picking the death magnetic album just so they can find something to complain about. Its like they cant admit metallica put out another great album. I think these are just the stupid "they haven't put out anything good since justice fans" but what do you think?
A: I like Metallica not a die hard fan but The Black album is there BEST with a few other songs in 90s early 2000s not the 80s thrash sound they had. Plus some fans are stuck in a period of tyme bands/people do grow old/mature so their music has evolved haven't heard the album yet but I'm sure its better than the Jonas bros or Fallout boy and ALL the other gay rock today!!!
Q: what's the name of the war film in the metallica music video "one"?
it looks interesting enough i just wondered if any knows what it isss?
A: What everyone above me said... Johnny Got His Gun.
A bit of trivia: Metallica actually owns that movie. They couldn't license it for One's video, so they bought it outright. A remake is in the works, and rumor has it One might be on it.

Q: What does the music video for Metallica "One" actually mean?
I am having a hard time understanding who the boy is and the old man and the others. How does it all relate? I must also say this is some of the stuff of my nightmares!
A: Actually, James Hetfield had the idea for this song and had never read the book or seen the movie Johnny Got his Gun. James talked to a friend about his idea and he told James he needed to check this book/movie out because they were so similar to his idea. James' inspiration was a twisting of the thought of being cut off from the outside world, having no hope.
Basically the music video follows a man go to war where he steps on a landmine and is blown up. The man lives but is only kept alive by machines, has no arms or legs, no face, cannot speak. The clips through the song from Johnny Got his Gun are mostly his dreams while being kept alive. The old man you asked about is the main character's father, and the boy is the main character when he was young. (The memory of the conversation "what is democracy" where they are sitting together and the father tells the boy "for Democracy, any man would give his only begotten son" I think is symbolic of a loss in hope for the main character.) Many of the dreams are memories of events that took place in the past, and some are simply creative imagery, such as "the armless legless, wonder". The part where his father helps him remember morse code, it's like a glimmer of returned hope for him- a way to escape.
I think it all fits together as the tragic story of a man trapped within himself, losing all hope and faith in mankind. If you read between the words of the song, and the words I just wrote, you'll understand better than if you read the words at face value.
